Amy Goodman and her brother David spoke about their new book, "Standing up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes Extraordinary Times" at the First Congregational Church of Oakland on the night of 4/15. Sadly I missed David's declaration as my telecom job keeps me quite busy. However, I did manage to witness a powerful speech by Amy.
She spoke of a woman she interviewed whose aunt was another Rosa Parks. She expounded upon the typical Rosa Parks story. Reminding those in the audience that she'd sat down in the front many times before that one notable moment.
She boldly proclaimed that our current media is soft, watered down, and mis-informative. She exclaimed vehemently that the airwaves could be ours once again if only we'd take them back. What a powerful message. We can take our airwaves back.
If we can take our airwaves back we can also reclaim our children; our schools from tight budget governors, our neighborhoods from thugs with suits and businessmen with guns, our music, our food, we can take back our lives.
Strength and honor to my fellow citizens of Oakland.
We will keep you posted on new developments.
