Interview Questions

Carefully constructed interview questions analyze several important themes.

1) How have laws, lobbies, and politicians prevented or assisted in the implementation of projects and policies geared towards the prevention of homicide since 2002.

a) E.g. why aren’t stop the violence programs implemented/sustained?

2) What role do authorities play in violence prevention?

a) What impact has employing more officers had on the homicide rate?

b) Why are more police being hired if that doesn’t solve the problem?

3) What role does nutrition play?

a) What is the difference between meat in low income areas and white neighborhoods?

b) “Poor areas often have an even higher exposure to fast food restaurants and fewer supermarkets, four times less in black neighborhoods than white neighborhoods, where healthier products can be found (even though there is evidence that supermarkets in poorer neighborhoods are more profitable per square foot).” Why/what’s the effect ?

4) What affect does the corporate media’s portrayal of blacks (all classes) have on immigrants?

a) E.g. Hispanics killing black babies in LA, Ca.

b) Are those who suggest this just playing the “race card?”

5) What is the relationship between the prison industrial complex, the educational system,

and the economic structure?

c) What impact does this three-way interaction have on the violence in Oakland?

6) What role does Hip-Hop play?

d) ...and the intellectualization of Hip-Hop/the MED (Michael Eric Dyson) Effect?
